ABOUT Kenna

Kenna McCoy trained at the Tolbert Yilmaz School of Dance from 1999-2014 in classical ballet, contemporary ballet, and modern.  Kenna worked with Kassandra Taylor and performed her pieces at the South East Regional Ballet Association Festival from 2009-2014. In 2014, she performed at the International Ballet Competition. Each summer, beginning in 2006, Kenna participated in a ballet summer intensive including the intensive’s of Washington Ballet, Milwaukee Ballet, Governor’s Honors Program, National Choreography Intensive, Ballet Austin, North Carolina Dance Theatre, Atlanta Ballet, and Burklyn Ballet. She has performed in the Nutcracker for 10 years in lead roles such as Sugar Plum, Dew Drop, Merliton, and Candy Cane.

Kenna has also been Swanilda in Coppelia, Finger Fairy in Sleeping Beauty, and Spring Fairy in Cinderella. In her high school’s production of Cats, Kenna had the opportunity to perform as the White Cat. Kenna has also had choreographic experience. She choreographed pieces in the annual HUGS Charity Concert for four years. While most of her training has been in ballet, she is a versatile dancer with experience in contemporary, Horton, Graham, jazz, tap, musical theater, and hip hop. Kenna majored in dance at Southern Methodist University, and it is her aspiration to become a professional contemporary ballet dancer. In addition to Kenna’s passion for dance, she has a passion for political science. Kenna majored in political science with an emphasis in international politics at SMU, and hopes to have a career in the realm of international affairs after her dance career. Kenna now works as a ballet instructor at the Dallas Conservatory.
