ABOUT JOSH

Joshua Schulman grew up in the suburbs of Washington DC. Joshua attended undergrad at Washington College on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and earned his B.A. in History and Drama. After college, he went on to graduate school at Boston University where he received an M.F.A. in Lighting Design in 2003. After grad school, Joshua lit shows for the Philadelphia Live Arts and Fringe Festival and fell in love with Philadelphia. Joshua now lives in the City of Brotherly Love with his wife, Karen, and son, Elijah.

Philosophically, Joshua believes that light is the “glue” that binds the different visual elements of a production together. Joshua has worked with People’s Light and Theatre Company, the Wilma Theatre, Delaware Theatre Company, the Media Theatre Company, Azuka Theatre, Theatre West Virginia, Rebecca Davis Dance Company, and many more. In 2008, Joshua was the recipient of the Barrymore Award for his lighting design of ART at Delaware Theatre Company. He was also nominated for a Barrymore Award in 2009 for his lighting of ROCK ‘N’ ROLL at the Wilma Theatre. In 2009, he was the lighting designer for the Hidden City Festival.
