There are two specific memories I will never forget. I became quite sick and did not have a voice at all after my first week in Rwanda. One of my students bought me a hard candy from the street in hopes it would make my throat feel better. This small act of generosity meant the world to me. Another young girl Annette and I became very close. We would go to mass together each week. Before l left, she took the crucifix off of her rosary and gave it to me. I will carry this crucifix with me everywhere and keep her in my prayers always.
